Cherokee County Municipal Elections – Tuesday, August 23rd

MUNICIPAL ELECTION 1

Cherokee County voters will go to the polls Tuesday (August 23rd) to cast their ballot in the local municipal election races.

In the City of Centre – current mayor Tony Wilkie, will be facing opposition from newcomer, William “Bubba” Johnston meanwhile a total of nine candidates have qualified in the Centre City Council race including Glen Chandler, Don Cothran, Glen Davis, Kay King Davis, Frankie Kelly, Harry Moon, Phillip Roberts, Cedric Williams and Bess Yarbrough.

The top seven vote getters will represent the citizens of Centre.

In the town of Cedar Bluff, Mayor Tammy Crane will remain in office for another four years, as she is running unopposed; for the Cedar Bluff Town Council Seat #1 Jack Crump will face Lorrie Green.  The remaining council members – Donald Sanders, Jerry Sprayberry, Norman Burton and Leatha Harp are all running unopposed.

Cedar Bluff voters will also cast their ballots in the YES/NO vote, on Sunday Alcohol Sales in the town.

In Leesburg, three candidates are vying for the office of mayor including incumbent Brandy Pierce, Cherokee County Chief of Corrections Jack Harley Lamey, and Shannon Mackey, who is the son of longtime Leesburg Mayor Ed Mackey.

Several candidates have qualified in the town council races.  For Place #1 Frankie Brewster is unopposed; in Place #2 Joe Sonaty is also unopposed; for Place #3, Diane Tillery will face Virginia Morris; in Place #4 Wayne Byrum will face Bron Bradley – meanwhile, Cody Adams and Robert “Bob” Morrow will seek the Place #5 post.

In Gaylesville, Mayor Liz Stafford is unopposed and on the town council incumbents Tommy Story, Gay Simpson, April Givens and Jean Watwood in Seats #2 through #5 are unopposed, with incumbent Tina Rowland facing challenger Daniel Steele for Seat #1.

Polls will be open from 7:00am – 7:00pm Tuesday.
