The annual Cherokee County Relay for Life event is scheduled for this Friday night (June 13th), taking place at the football field on the Cherokee County High School campus in Centre.

Publicity Director Melissa Culpepper, along with MaKenzie Green and her mother Brandi – paid a visit to the WEIS Radio studios earlier in the week to share some information on the upcoming gathering which will feature a variety of activities and live entertainment.

Relay for Life fundraisers help raise much-needed funds for research in the battle against cancer, and eleven year old MacKenzie, who is a seven year survivor of a Stage IV Wilms’ Tumor, has put her own special spin on local fundraising efforts this year with her own t-shirt – that proudly proclaims – “Friends Don’t Let Friends Fight Cancer Alone”.

We asked MaKenzie’s mother what led to the creation of the unique shirt:

The proceeds from these t-shirts will be split between Relay for Life and Camp Smile-A-Mile:

Team Cedar Bluff t-shirts are also still available – and there is still time to purchase sky lanterns and luminary bags for Friday night’s event.
