Cherokee County Relay for Life Extends Their Fundraising Deadline

Life 2

Cherokee County Relay for Life ended up just short of their $50,000 goal during their Relay for Life night at Warrior Stadium; however, no one associated with that organization can be considered a quitter, and they’ve extended their fundraising drive, in an effort to meet their goal:

Last year, Cherokee County helped raise $48,964 for Relay for Life – and remember much of the money gathered each year stays here to help residents of Cherokee County, providing a means to offset travel expenses for going to and from treatment and other needs associated with treatment.  We’ve posted a list of Relay for Life Teams, and contact information below.

We encourage you to contact anyone on the list and do what you can to lend a helping hand

Why We Fundraise

Every year, the Relay For Life movement raises more than $400 million.

The American Cancer Society puts these donations to work, investing in groundbreaking research in every type of cancer and providing free information and services to cancer patients and their caregivers. We’re fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer, in your community and everyone else’s.

History of Relay For Life

Back in May of 1985 Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight the nation’s biggest health concern – cancer.

One year later, 340 supporters joined in to take part in the event. Since those first steps, the Relay For Life movement has grown into a worldwide phenomenon ultimately raising some $5 billion to fight cancer.
