Cherokee County’s Donald W. Tucker: Inducted into the US Army’s Quartermaster Hall of Fame

US Army retired Command Sergeant Major Donald W. Tucker, 63, of Sand Rock, Alabama received national honors on June 10, 2016 when he was inducted into the US Army’s Quartermaster Hall of Fame.

He and his spouse, Lydia, his son Eric (who served 22 years in the US Army) his step-daughter Lexy (who will be attending Jacksonville State University in August) attended the ceremonies June 10, 2016 at Fort Lee, Virginia, which is the regimental headquarters for quartermaster soldiers.  The hall of fame, established in 1986, honors retired military and civilian personnel who have made “the most significant contributions to the overall history and traditions of the Quartermaster Corps.”

Presiding at the ceremony were Brigadier General Rodney Fogg, 54^thQM General, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Roberto Figueroa, Regimental CWO and Command Sergeant Major Jimmy Sellers, Regimental CSM.

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Tucker is currently retired from the United States Army and the State of Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs.  He entered active duty with the United States Army in September 1971 and served until March 1998.  During his tenure as an enlisted Soldier he served as a Supply Clerk, TAMMS Clerk, Prescribed Load List (PLL) Clerk, Acting Motor Pool Sergeant, Squad Leader, Unit Armorer, Supply Sergeant, Non-commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) Property Book Section, Chief Supply Sergeant Director of Industrial Operations, Non-commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) Inventory Control Division, Platoon Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major.

CSM Tucker’s enlisted assignments prior to graduating from the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy include: Supply Clerk, TAMMS Clerk, PLL Clerk, Acting Motor Pool Sergeant and Squad Leader, Headquarters & Headquarters Battery, 1^st Battalion 76^th Field Artillery, Kitzingen, Germany; Supply Clerk and Unit Armorer, B Battery 22d Field Artillery, Canal Zone, Panama; Supply Sergeant Basic Training Company, NCOIC Property Book Section and Chief Supply Sergeant Fort Gordon, Georgia; Supply Sergeant Headquarters & Headquarters Company 802d Combat Heavy Engineer Battalion Camp Humphreys, Korea; Supply Sergeant Redstone Readiness Group Redstone Arsenal, Alabama and NCOIC/Platoon Sergeant Inventory Control Division Theater Communications Security Logistics Support Center Worms, Germany.

After completing the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy in January 1987, CSM Tucker’s assignments include: Operations Sergeant and First Sergeant Headquarters Company and Alpha Company 105^th Forward Support Battalion, CSM 5^th Forward Support Battalion Fort Polk, Louisiana; CSM 23d Area Support Group Camp Humphreys, Korea; CSM 553d Supply & Services Battalion Fort Hood, Texas; CSM Joint Task Force Support Command Somalia; CSM 13^th Corps Support Command Fort Hood, Texas and CSM 17^th Area Support Group Camp Zama, Japan.

Overall, in his 26 ½ years of military service, CSM Tucker served 25 years as an Acting Non-commissioned Officer and Non-commissioned Officer. His last 9 years was as a Command Sergeant Major.

His awards include the Legion of Merit (2d Award); Meritorious Service Medal (3d Award); Army Commendation Medal (3d Award); Army Achievement Medal; Joint Meritorious Unit Award; Army Good Conduct Medal (8^th Award); National Defense Service Medal (2d Award); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Noncommissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 4; Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon (6^th Award).
