Cherokee County Resident Speaks Out During Commission Planning Session

Harold Whitener

The Planning Session held prior to the regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission on Monday got off to a rather rocky start, as Cherokee County resident Harold Whitener exchanged words with Commission Chairman Kirk Day.

Whitener was apparently intent on discussing some sort of political grievance and he was quickly informed that the issue was not appropriate for that place and time

Whitener persisted, eventually claiming that he’d received death threats in the past when he had attempted to run for political office

During the regular meeting Chairman Day announced that a public hearing would be held during their May 27th meeting concerning vacating a portion of County Road 800.

The Commission also adopted naming a county road James “Jackie” Howell Memorial Drive.

A resolution was also adopted – confirming action by the State Legislature – naming a portion of Highway 273 as the David L. Hartline Highway.

David Hartline is currently organizing an Armed Forces Day Parade & Cookout to honor current military personnel, veterans and their family members.

That event will take place in Centre from 10:00am – 2:30pm on Saturday, May 17th.

The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is slated for Monday May 12th at 10:00am in the County Administration Building in Centre.
