Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 “Keelo” Pays Visit to Gaylesville School Students

GS1On March 9th Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 handler, Deputy Michael Green, paid a visit to Gaylesville School with his K-9 partner, Keelo.

GS3Deputy Green interacted with students from Mrs. Smith’s and Mrs. Lawson’s kindergarten classes by reading to them and allowing them to meet Keelo, a black Labrador Retriever, which is trained in detection of illegal narcotics.

According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver his office had acquired Keelo from the Alabama K-9 Law Enforcement Training Academy located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Sheriff Shaver states that Keelo was purchased to help combat illegal drugs in our county.

Deputy Green stated, “The children were very excited and seemed to really enjoy the visit.”

Sheriff Shaver said Deputy Green and Keelo plan to be present in the schools more often to promote a safe and drug free atmosphere for all the students of Cherokee County.
