A number of local residents were surprised to hear helicopters overhead on Tuesday night; according to Cherokee County Chief Investigator Josh Summerford it was merely part of the training exercise being conducted by the Sheriff’s office, in and around the old airport, off of Northwood Drive; that particular exercise incorporated a military aviation unit.
