Spring Garden (17-3) was crowned the Lady’s Champion in the Cherokee County basketball tournament when they defeated Sand Rock (21-2) 49-42.

The teams had already met twice earlier this season with the Class 2A, No. 7 Sand Rock Lady Wildcats besting the Class 1A, No. 5 Spring Garden Lady Panthers both times.

On Saturday night, the Garden Girls turned the tables on the Lady Cats.

Haley Motes led Spring Garden with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Tykeah Rogers netted 14 and pulled down 7 boards. Darian Gaines contributed 13 points that included hitting all 7 of her free throw attempts.

For Sand Rock, Courtney Rowe had 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Emily Langley added 10 points, three steals and two assists. Madison Smith and Madison McCullough both scored six points. Smith also had 10 rebounds, two blocks and two assists. Leslie Mackey finished with five points, five boards, an assist and a steal.

In the boys championship game Cherokee County (9-7) used a 28 to 7 third quarter surge to top Sand Rock (11-11) by a final score of 75 to 57.

Tony Pruitt led the Warriors with 27 points including three treys, six rebounds and a pair of steals. Joel Wester also connected for three treys and finished with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals. Preston Grimes contributed 11 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots. Wade Griffth tallied 10 points, five boards and a steal. Trenton Edwards drained a pair of 3-pointers and finished with six points.

Sand Rock’s Dylan Mackey poured in five treys and finished the game with 20 points and six rebounds. Chase Garrett and Joel Brock both tossed in 10 points. Brock also had seven boards and a pair of assists. Ryon Gibson finished with eight points.

Sand Rock claimed the JV girls championship with a victory over Cherokee County. The win capped a perfect 13-0 season for the Lady Cats. Katelyn Hanson led Sand Rock with 9 points, Samantha Hester added seven more and Sabryn (Say-Brin) Chandler finished with six.

In the JV boys title game Cherokee County came out on top by a final score of 42 to 27. Jaren Lockridge collected game scoring honors with 14. Quartez Henderson added 10 while Jacob Graves and Justin McKnight contributed six points apiece. Colin Edwards added 5 more for the JV Warriors. Alex McMahan top the Wildcat score sheet with six points. Tyler King finished with five. Jack Riley Boyd and Caleb Kasinger both ended with four apiece.
