Cherokee County Warriors Move on to First Round of AHSAA State Playoffs / UPDATED

Riley Miller, Logan Green and Preston Grimes kept the Sardis hitters off-balance last night as the Warriors blanked the Lions 3-0 in high school varsity baseball.

Miller struck out one and was credited with the win while Grimes finished with five strikeouts.

The Warriors offense was powered by a triple from Jaren Lockridge, and doubles from Colin Edwards and Jy Lockridge.  In addition to his work on the mound, Miller was credited with three RBI’s.

When the first round of the AHSAA playoffs get underway Cherokee County will travel to face Class 4A, Area 11 champion Jacksonville (18-5).  The Warriors record is currently 13-5 which includes two preseason losses to Etowah.

Tonight the Warriors welcome Ft. Payne to Bobby Beckett Field on the campus of Cherokee County High School in Centre.

First pitch for the double header is slated for 4:30 p.m. weather permitting.

UPDATE

The Cherokee County Warriors (13-5,6-2) baseball game against Ft. Payne that was scheduled for today Friday, April 10th) at Bobby Beckett Field in Centre has been cancelled.  

A make up date for the game will be determined.  The Warriors next regular season scheduled game will be at Fort Payne on Monday.

Cherokee County begins post season play on the road Friday, April 17 against 4A, Area 11 champion Jacksonville (18-5).
