City Of Centre Looking To Purchase Federal Building To House Police Department And Municipal Court

Federal BuildingThe Centre City Council is in talks over the possibility of purchasing the old federal building and property on West Main Street.

During the Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie said that he had spoken with the owner of the property about purchasing the building to house the Police Department and to hold Municipal Court, Mayor Wilkie said in terms of Court, he felt the facility would allow for Attorney’s and their respective clients to have a little more privacy during proceedings where they do not currently have that option at City Hall.

The council agreed to enter into a contract with the property owner contingent upon a satisfactory inspection of the building at the request of Councilman Marc Johnson.

In other business, the council approved a request by Streets and Sanitation Director Bobby Paul to spend in excess of $10,000 for necessary repairs which have to be done to one of the city’s backup garbage trucks – after further discussion the council agreed that they would be looking into the possibility of purchasing a new truck at a later date.
