CLASS 1A GIRLS NORTHEAST SUB-REGIONAL: Cedar Bluff Stuns Woodville In Overtime

WOODVILLE – A 7-0 run in overtime lifted Class 1A, No. 10 Cedar Bluff to a 55-48 victory at sixth-ranked Woodville in Northeast Sub-Regional girls basketball action on Monday.

Cedar Bluff (19-10) advances to the Northeast Regional Tournament at Jacksonville State University’s Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Lady Tigers will face seventh-ranked Winterboro at 6 p.m. Winterboro defeated Ragland 65-25 in other sub-regional action on Monday.

“The girls played great,” Cedar Bluff coach Joe Carpenter said. “They kept their composure in overtime and played terrific defense. They made key free throws to seal the win and vault us into the next round. Our staff and fans can’t be any prouder of them. They left it all on the court.”

Cedar Bluff jumped out to an 18-9 advantage by the end of the first quarter. However, Woodville (19-11) managed to take a 27-26 lead into halftime.

The two teams battled to a 36-all tie at the end of the third quarter and were deadlocked at 48 at the end of regulation.

As Carpenter said, free-throw shooting was key in the extra session. Alexis Smith hit all six of her attempts at the charity stripe and finished 7-of-8 from the line for the game for all of her points.

Delilah Price led the Lady Tigers with 20 points. Hannah Cosby delivered 14 points. Kiana Dobbins and Ollina McClellan both finished with four points.

Sara Baugh led the Lady Panthers with 16 points. Kaitlyn Sisk connected on three treys and finshed with 15 points. Bri Houk had 10 points.
