Collinsville Police Fall Victim To Cyber Attack

Collinsville Police say cyber criminals hacked into seven computers at the Collinsville Police Department.

Collinsville Assistant Police Chief Rex Leath told WEIS Radio News that the hackers are essentially holding the department’s computer files hostage so that officers cannot open criminal mug shots or videos from crime scenes – Leath said that officers would have to pay money to have the videos and photos unlocked but that the department will not do so, saying that he will not negotiate with terrorist.

Leath says the attack originated from an email attachment sent to the department and that the FBI’s Cyber Crime Unit will be removing the hard drive to investigate.
