Counterfeit Money Makes an Unwelcome Appearance in Cherokee County

counterfeit 2We’ve had reports of counterfeit money turning up in neighboring Floyd County, Georgia – and apparently – in at least one Cherokee County convenience store over the weekend.

Rome Police were dispatched to the Kangaroo/Marathon convenience store – located on Garden Lakes Boulevard – where they were informed by the assistant manager, that the nighttime clerk had taken in five counterfeit twenty dollar bills between the hours of 4:00 and 11:00pm Saturday

The bills were turned over to the officers and placed into evidence.

WEIS Radio News has been informed that counterfeit bills also turned up in the Centre area on Sunday, with a report being made to the Centre Police Department; in that instance the store took in one counterfeit twenty and three phony ten dollar bills.

Under the circumstances we do urge area business owners to be especially cautious in regard to the possibility of counterfeit bills being in circulation.

Investigators with the Centre Police Department are currently on the case and it remains unclear at this time if the incidents here in Cherokee County, and across the state line – are related in any way.
