Morton County Sheriffs Department(MANDAN, N.D.) — Police and an estimated 400 Dakota Access pipeline demonstrators were in a standoff Sunday night at a bridge north of a protest camp, according to the Morton County, North Dakota, Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s department, the protesters were on the Backwater Bridge trying to go north on highway 1806, while law enforcement officers formed a line north of the bridge to stop them.
The sheriff’s department said protesters were trying to start fires, and Mandan Rural and Bismarck Fire Departments were on the scene.
Video of the confrontation livestreamed by the protesters appeared to show law enforcement using water cannon.
