Danny Chandler Now Out of Jail After Serving 5 Year Sentence

Danny Chandler is out of jail.

As you may recall, Chandler was indicted by a grand jury on the charge of Attempted Murder in connection with the 2007 shooting of Loretta Gilbert.

Gilbert was riding her motorcycle on Highway 411 south of Leesburg on the evening of July 31st of that year –when someone in a pickup truck pulled alongside her, and then began firing shots in her direction.

Gilbert was air-lifted from the scene to Erlanger Medical Centre in Chattanooga – and eventually recovered from her wounds.  

CCSO - Chandler 249 year old Danny Chandler of Collinsville was later arrested and accused of being the shooter – his bond was set at $250,000.

He was sentenced by Circuit Judge Randall Cole to a split-sentence of 20 years with five years to serve followed by 15 years of probation.

Chandler had been booked into jail August 30th of 2008 – and according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office website, he was released this week (August 2013), after completing his five year sentence.

CCSO - Stimpson 1In May 2010 – 63 year old James Thomas Stimpson from Sand Rock was indicted by a Cherokee County grand jury for two counts of criminal solicitation in connection with the attack on Gilbert

Stimpson was later found guilty of Solicitation to Commit Murder and was sentenced by Etowah County Judge Allen Millican to 30 years in the state penitentiary and was ordered to pay $10,000 to the Victim’s Compensation Fund.

Stimpson remains behind bars.

Loretta Gilbert, now using her maiden name of Pierce, told WEIS Radio News (quote) “…I have forgiven Chandler and I hope he remains safe and lives a drug free life for the Lord. I would also be willing to forgive Tom Stimpson if he would just tell the truth; if not, I hope he spends his last days in the state penitentiary.” (end-quote).
