The attack led to days of fighting between Awlad Suleiman and Guedadfa clans, with three men being killed as well as the monkey once the clashes began.

The BBC is reporting the death toll could increase as heavy weapons such as tanks and rockets were used.

The Guedadfa community, which the three men and the monkey were a part of, was the same clan of the late Libyan leader Muammar Ghaddafi.

The BBC added that the Awlad Suleiman and Guedadfa communities have expeirenced intense conflict over the span of many years.
