A DeKalb County Corrections Supervisor was arrested after he allegedly extorted money from an inmate and used his position to bring contraband into the detention center.

According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris – 44 year old Brian Scott Crowe of Fort Payne was arrested after investigators followed up on information indicating Crowe was up to suspicious activity. Crowe served as a jail sergeant and was a long-time employee.

Crowe has been booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center on charges of Extortion 1st degree and Promoting Prison Contraband 3rd degree. He is awaiting bond on those charges. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

Harris said “It’s embarrassing to be in a position where I have to arrest one of my employees. I expect my employees to set a higher standard of conduct and this case just shows that people can disappoint you. I have the greatest respect for the job I’m entrusted with and I expect my people to have that respect also.

We have been working on this case for a month and I feel both relieved and embarrassed to bring it to a close. I will not tolerate any one mistreating the public or our inmates. We will continue to do what is right no matter what the consequences. I appreciate the trust the people have put in me and my employees and we will always try to earn it.”
