DeKalb County authorities are investigating a shooting incident which took place on Wednesday evening in the Powell community.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris says a man was shot at least two times after an argument with another man in the area of Wigley Road; the victim was reportedly shot in the chest and hand – and there was what appeared to be an additional wound to the back, however it was unclear if that was an entry wound or an exit wound.

The victim later identified as Monte Gant – reportedly fled the home of LaWayne Bell and made his way to the Rainsville Burger King, approximately five miles away – before receiving help.

He was transported to DeKalb Regional – then air-lifted to Erlanger for treatment.

Bell was questioned by investigators at the scene, however it appears no arrest has been made in connection with the incident at this time.
