Dekalb Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Starts In September

Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris has announced that the fall session of the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy will run from September 9th thru November 4th on Monday nights.

The purpose of the academy is to educate the citizens of DeKalb County on how their Sheriff’s Office works to provide law enforcement services to the public, thereby fostering support for the Sheriff’s Office and developing partnerships with its citizens, enabling them collectively to improve the quality of life in DeKalb County and to more efficiently prevent crime in the community.

Classes include Administration, Communication, Patrol, Investigations, Crime Scenes, Firearms, K-9 and Drug Agents, Corrections, Laws related to criminal and civil cases, and an enlightening class on child abuse and sex offenders.

All class members are allowed to do a ride-along with the patrol deputies during the class.

There are still openings available so you are encouraged to apply quickly.

An application can be filled out at the Sheriff’s Office Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
