Deputy Trainee At The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Arrested For Electronic Solicitation

trentonwesleyhamiltonA Gadsden man has been arrested in connection to electronic solicitation, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

20 year old Trenton Wesley Hamilton of Gadsden, was arrested and charged with one count of electronic solicitation of a child and one count of transmitting obscene material, both are felonies.

Hamilton allegedly used an electronic device to entice a child for sexual purposes and to send obscene photos.  The crimes supposedly began in September.

He was employed by the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy trainee and has since been released of his duties.

“A priority of this Sheriff’s Office is to always protect those who cannot protect themselves.  This sheds a black eye on the Office and law enforcement,” Sheriff Entrekin said.  “As soon as we were notified of the crime we took quick action to relieve him of his duties.  The investigation is in the early stages and is ongoing.  Additional charges may be pending.”

Anyone who feels they have information concerning this case please contact Chief Michael Jones at 256-546-2825.

“I want to personally apologize to the victim and their family that an employee acted in this manner,” Sheriff Entrekin added.

Hamilton was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center on $200,000 cash bond.  He is to have no contact with the victim, no unsupervised contact with anyone under 18 years old and is prohibited to use a cell phone or the internet.
