Don’t Mess with Uncle Sam – Seven Busted For Allegedly Filing Phony Tax Returns

A federal investigation into the filing of phony tax returns – has thus far, resulted in seven arrests being made in Chattooga and Floyd County, Georgia.

According to the Summerville News – those arrested include Mark Williams, Roger LaDell Price Jr., Darrell Jerome Lyles, Edward Claude Hammitt, Heather A. Smith, Beverly J, McHenry and Frank Smith.

They stand accused of creating bogus tax returns, and then using the identities of inmates that are currently being held at correctional facilities across the state. They allegedly filed fake IRS forms and transmitted them through an on-line tax preparation site called TaxSlayer.com.

The group stands accused of opening bank accounts for fake companies; some of which included the names “Heather Smith Tax & Accounting”, “Williams Repair & Remodeling” or “D’s Gutter Cleaning Service” and “D’s Gutter and Taxes”.

The investigation into the matter is on-going.
