One person was air-lifted for treatment after running his vehicle off of a steep embankment approximately a mile past KTH in Leesburg on Thursday morning.
The man was reportedly coming down the mountain headed toward Leesburg on Industrial Boulevard when he failed to make the curve, left the roadway and crashed, with the vehicle coming to rest upside down.
Emergency personnel on the scene said the man was ejected from the vehicle.
The wreck occurred at around 10:15am; the victim was flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga for treatment. Fortunately, no one else was in the vehicle.
According to Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton, that driver, identified as 60 year old Kenneth Harper of a Collinsville address, died later that afternoon at Erlanger.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Those responding to that scene included the Leesburg Police and Fire Departments, Rescue Squad, Cherokee EMS, Centre Fire Department and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
