Elderly Female Reported Missing From Gordon County, Georgia Dies In Single Car Accident In Centre

An elderly female who had been reported missing out of Gordon County, Georgia died in a single car crash in Centre on Saturday.

The vehicle being driven by 75 year old Adairsville, Georgia resident Mary Helen Johnson went through the intersection of the Bypass and West Main Street and slammed into several cars on the lot at Ray’s Auto Sales in Centre just after 6:00 p.m.

According to Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton, Johnson was transported from the scene to Cherokee Medical Center by Cherokee EMS where she was pronounced dead by himself and Chief Deputy Coroner Paul McDonald.  

Mrs. Johnson had been reported missing earlier in the day to Gordon County Georgia authorities after she left her residence and had not returned. She suffered from dementia. According to the Coroner, it appears Mrs. Johnson suffered a medical episode just prior to the wreck. Centre police are investigating the incident.

Those responding to the scene included Cherokee EMS, Cherokee Rescue Squad, Centre Fire Department, Centre Police Department, and the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.
