The deadline for political candidates to qualify comes early this year.

Cherokee County Probate Judge Kirk Day recently announced the change and explained why the deadline is now sooner.

Qualifying will begin this Monday (January 13th).

Day says there are a number of local and state offices up for election this year.

Anyone interested in qualifying for the State Legislature or District Judge must qualify with their respective state parties.

You can reach the Alabama Democratic Party at (334) 262-2221. The Alabama Republican Party’s number is (205) 212-5900.

Republicans seeking to qualify for local office can contact Cherokee County GOP Chairman John Ellis at (256) 453-0611.

Democrats can call local party chairman John A. Roberts at (256) 484-3053 or Secretary/Treasurer Frances Stimpson at (256) 927-3496.

Once again, Democratic and Republican candidates have until 5 p.m. on February the 7th to file their paperwork.

The deadline does not apply to those seeking office as an independent or write-in candidate.
