Emergency Crews Work Several Accidents In Cherokee County On Thursday / UPDATED

Emergency crews across Cherokee County were kept extremely busy on Thursday.

At around 11:45am, Centre Police and the Centre Fire Department responded to a report of someone crashing into a power pole just off College Street in Centre.

They arrived to find the pole on the ground, with lines across the roadway – however – the person driving had already fled the scene. We understand that a witness has provided law enforcement with a description of the vehicle.

Cherokee Electric Co op crews were on the scene within minutes, and everything had been repaired in less than half-an-hour.

Shortly after 3:00pm, an 18 wheeler overturned on Highway 411 around seven miles north of Centre near the intersection of County Road 384.

The big rig was hauling a load of lumber with both the truck and trailer overturning spilling wood across one lane. Traffic was diverted down County Roads 124 and 161 – while crews worked to clear away debris and upright the truck.

Highway 411 was shut down for approximately two hours; no other vehicles were involved and fortunately no one was injured.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report, the driver was 35 year old Andy Lambert of Geraldine.

The Spring Creek Fire Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.

Just before 5:00pm – Cedar Bluff Police & Firefighters along with Cherokee EMS responded to the scene of a two vehicle accident, at the intersection of Highway 68 and Highway 9, in front of the Weiss Mart Marina. Traffic was kept to two lanes, while work crews cleaned up the wreckage – no injuries were reported.

Shortly after 9:30pm, Alabama State Troopers, the Ellisville Fire Department and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover occurring on Highway 9 south at Ellisville.

No one was injured in the mishap; the cause of the accident remains under investigation by state troopers.
