Etowah County District Attorney Files Bribery Charges Against Southside Woman

Amy MartinThe Etowah County district attorney filed bribery charges against a Southside woman.

Amy Martin was placed in the Etowah County jail on May 23, 2014 on two charges of unlawful possession of controlled substance and driving with a revoked drivers license. A Southside police officer pulled her over and found hydrocodone and morphine in her possession.

The bribery charges were later filed after Martin allegedly offered “something of value” to her cellmate in exchange for a false confession that the drugs found during her arrest didn’t belong to her. Investigators believe Martin was trying to get her fellow inmate to claim the drugs in an effort to have the charges dismissed in court.

Bribery is a class C felony and with Martin’s prior criminal history she faces 10 to 99 years in prison. District Attorney Jimmie Harp stated “I appreciate the work of the agents in obtaining an arrest in this case. Bribery of a Witness is a particularly disturbing activity that shows that this defendant has absolutely no remorse for her criminal behavior.”

Martin is being held at the Etowah County Detention Center on no bond. The district attorney says the case is ongoing and more charges are possible.
