According to the information contained in a news release from Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin a county maintenance worker who allegedly helped an inmate obtain illegal drugs on two separate occasions – will now be sharing accommodations with him.
57 year old Steven Howard of Boaz has been charged with Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd Degree and with Theft of Property 1st Degree – both felonies.
Howard confessed to helping a county inmate obtain drugs while under his supervision – the first incident occurred approximately a month ago, and the second took place October 15th. That same day, an inmate took a county maintenance truck and fled while under the supervision of Howard; the inmate was captured later that evening.
Howard also admitted to taking, and selling, a control panel worth approximately $3,500 – that property has since been recovered.
He is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center with bond set at $7,500.
