Rome Police Captain Paul Green said 50 year old Jeffrey Michael Campbell was traveling south-bound on his motorcycle when the accident occurred.
A pickup truck – also traveling southbound on Martha Berry – had been preparing to make a left hand turn from the center turn-lane, but for some reason, came back out into the southbound lane of traffic – resulting in Campbell’s motorcycle striking the rear of the pickup.
Campbell was seriously injured in the wreck, and LifeFlight was called, but according to officers on the scene his condition worsened to the point that he was instead rushed to a nearby hospital – where he died some two hours later.
It’s unclear whether any charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
Police say that the driver of the pickup – 44 year old Roger Grizzle, of Armuchee – is now facing charges of Vehicular Homicide 2nd Degree and Failure to Maintain a Single Lane.
