Gadsden police were called to a fight Tuesday night involving a 74-year-old man who witnesses said wanted to sing a song at karaoke night at a Chestnut Street club.

According to police reports, the man, a Gadsden resident, scuffled with the 47-year-old DJ from Rainsville hired for the event sometime around 11:45 p.m.

The 74-year-old told police he was kicked in the ribs by the DJ as he approached the DJ.

The DJ told police the older man was angry at having to wait to sing a song, had threatened physcial harm earlier in the evening and attempted to get on the stage “in an aggressive manner.”

Another report, filed by a 54-year-old Rainsville woman, said that during the scuffle between the men, she had attempted to help the 74-year-old man to his feet. She said he instead struck her in the stomach with his foot.

The older man was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center, saying his ribs were injured and his blood pressure needed checking.

There was no mention of the song involved in the altercation.
