Fire at Forest River Apartment Complex

GAD FIRE 1

It took Gadsden firefighters approximately 20 minutes to get a blaze under control, at a unit in Gadsden’s Forest River Apartment complex off George Wallace Drive, Tuesday afternoon.

Assistant Fire Chief Craig Cannon said three people were injured in the fire, one seriously.

Firefighters got the call just after 5:30pm at the complex; the fire started on the first floor of a unit and eventually affected four apartments; the fire apparently began on a stove top as a man was playing video games. The man’s hands and face were burned when he attempted to get the item on the stove out of the apartment. Medics tried to get him air-lifted from the apartments, but weather conditions kept a helicopter from the area.

He was eventually transported to Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

Cannon said four of the eight apartments in the unit sustained damage – with fire damage in two, and smoke, heat and water damage in the remaining two.
