Centre Fire Chief Kevin Ware told WEIS Radio News, that there will be live fire training tonight (Thursday, May 16th) in Centre – for the volunteer fire departments throughout the county.
The Centre department has four houses just off First Avenue which they have targeted to be used for the event.
The department burned a house on First Avenue Wednesday afternoon for a training event and to remove abandoned structures for the city through the “Lein and Clean” ordinance. The issue was discussed during the Tuesday meeting of the Centre City Council, with Councilman Harry Moon telling the council they needed to get started with those structures.
There are several houses in different locations throughout the city that need to be taken down. In addition to being an eyesore to the community, these locations can become health issues.
Mayor Tony Wilkie told the council, that work was underway, to give the structures the attention they needed.
More than 20 firefighters from various departments will be taking part in the event tonight.
