Floyd County Man Charged with Murder

A 20-year-old man is in jail on murder and other charges following a shooting Saturday night.

Rome Police have charged Idris Dsu Dennis Jr. of Rome with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and aggravated assault, according to Floyd County Jail records.  Dennis, a former defensive lineman for the Rome High Wolves, remained in jail Sunday with no bond set.   The victim’s name has not been released.

According to a Rome Police Department release:

At 8:26 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to an area near 3 Knollwood Drive. They discovered a man lying in the street with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported by EMS and was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Floyd.   The official cause of death will be determined at the GBI Crime Lab where an autopsy is pending.   RPD investigators arrived and collected crime scene evidence. A murder warrant was secured against Dennis, who later surrendered without incident.   Police said, as of early Sunday, they did not yet know the motive and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.
