Former Ider Police Officer Takes Own Life After Pursuit in Tennessee

MurphreeA former Ider Police Officer died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Interstate 24 Tuesday.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that 44 year old Charles Keith Murphree took his own life in Marion County Tennessee – between Jasper and Kimball; WTVC of Chattanooga reported that Murphree was wanted in DeKalb County on a domestic assault charge.

Authorities were in pursuit of Murphree, after spotting his vehicle at an area restaurant.  Officers say he traveled just over two miles down I-24 before pulling over onto the side of the road where he committed suicide.

Murphree was arrested in DeKalb County following an incident in January of 2012 that allegedly took place while he was on duty.
