Former JSU Assistant Professor Arrested on “Attempting to Receive Child Pornography” Charge

JSU - Herbert39 year old Jonathan Mark Herbert has been sentenced to a term of five years in prison; that after he pled guilty in January to one count of attempting to receive child pornography.

Herbert – a former assistant professor at Jacksonville State University – was also sentenced to 10 years supervised probation following his stay his prison and he will also be required to register as a sex offender.

According to information contained in a news release from U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance the prosecution says Herbert attempted to receive images of child pornography in August 2012, from a 14 year old girl via the internet – however that “14 year old girl” was in reality – an undercover police officer. Herbert also drove to a Birmingham area shopping center in an effort to meet with the 14 year old for sex.

That case was investigated by the Alabama Department of Public Safety Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
