Four Arrested in Cherokee County – Charged with Possession of “Spice”

Four people were arrested Saturday night (June 7th) in Leesburg on drug charges, after dispatch received a call reporting what appeared to be a drunk driver on Highway 273.

The caller also reported that beer cans were being tossed from the vehicle – a black Mustang.

Trooper Jeff Harp spotted the vehicle and pulled the driver over on Highway 68 in Leesburg – at that point Deputy Nick Vaughn arrived on the scene and recovered alcohol from the occupants – and several packages of the illegal synthetic drug known as “Spice”.

20 year old Dontavious LaShawn Hardy; Stanley Jacob Winston, 19; and Joel Solomon Harwick, also 19 – were all taken into custody and charged with the Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, the Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Underage Possession of Alcohol.

All three are residents of Gadsden.

Following their arrest, they were transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center – where bond was set at $3,500 each.

The fourth individual, a juvenile, was turned over to the Juvenile Probation Office.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver would like to remind everyone, that not only is possession of Spice a felony offense – but use of such substances can be extremely dangerous and even life-threatening.

He also stated that he greatly appreciates all those who are willing to report suspicious activity to law enforcement officials in an effort to help keep our roadways safe.
