“Funny Money” No Laughing Matter

Counterfeit Money 3

Chattooga County law enforcement officials got the last laugh in regard to some “funny money”, allegedly being put into circulation by a Summerville restaurant employee’s boyfriend.

Sheriff’s office deputies were called to the Taco Bell after the store manager reported receiving a counterfeit $50 bill from a drive-thru customer.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they were told that store employee Chasity “Nikki” White – was the one who had taken the bogus bill, and she identified the subject who gave her the money, as Matthew Meeler – her live-in boyfriend.

She then stated that Meeler was on his way back to the restaurant to pay the money that he owed – however – a deputy spoke with Meeler on the phone, and told him to meet them at the sheriff’s office instead.

After receiving permission to search the couple’s home, deputies arrested Matthew Meeler on an outstanding warrant and on a forgery charge for the counterfeit money.

Reports did not indicate if White was charged with anything in connection with the incident.
