A Gadsden man now stands charged with a sexual assault allegedly occurring at the campground outside the Talladega Superspeedway prior to the recent NASCAR race.

ABC 33/40 is reporting that campers staying near the track heard strange noises during the early morning hours and went to investigate. According to police – campers began chasing a man and held him until officers could arrive at which time they accused him of committing sexual assault

22 year old Jimenez Miguel Pedro was placed under arrest and he has been charged with Rape in connection with the incident.

He remains in the Talladega Jail with bond set at $250,000.

Police say the victim was taken to a care center at the Speedway and was afterwards transported to a Birmingham area hospital for treatment.
