Gadsden Man Charged with Trafficking Meth

A 33 year old Etowah County man is behind bars facing a long list of charges not the least of which is drug trafficking.

Drug Enforcement Unit Commander Randall Johnson, has issued a News Release containing information on the December 28th arrest of William Cornelius – who has been charged with Trafficking Meth, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Pistol, Resisting Arrest and Attempting to Elude.

Deputies had gone to a Tarpley Drive residence to issue a warrant, and witnessed Cornelius jumping from a vehicle, then running into a nearby wooded area; he was caught following a brief foot chase.

Authorities reportedly recovered about 29 grams of meth, and a small amount of marijuana in the area where the chase occurred; a .32 caliber pistol was found in the vehicle Cornelius bailed out of prior to fleeing.

He is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
