Gadsden Police Officer Continues to Recover From Motorcycle Accident

A Gadsden Police Officer remains in critical but stable condition at UAB, after being involved in a motorcycle wreck over the weekend.

According to ABC 33/40 Officer Gary Pierce, who was off-duty at the time was seriously injured – when a pick-up truck collided with his motorcycle at the intersection of Rainbow Drive and Whorton Bend Road on Saturday.  Pierce suffered a traumatic brain injury in the crash.

Other officers are rallying support for Pierce and his family.

An account has been set up at WinSouth Bank to assist the family with expenses, and people can donate to the “Gary Pierce Recovery Fund” at any branch.

Plans are currently being made for a “Ride for Gary P.” motorcycle run on Saturday, March 29th with proceeds from that event going to provide financial support for the family.

Sergeant Gary Pierce is an eighteen year veteran of the Gadsden Police Department – is Sergeant of Operations for the Drug Task Force – and is also the Senior Team Leader for the Joint Special Operations Group, which handles SWAT operations for Etowah County.
