GADSDEN STATE TO HAVE SPRING COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY MAY 4th
The Spring Commencement Ceremony for Gadsden State Community College will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 4 in the arena at Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre.
Featured speakers will be Gadsden State students Jasmine Adams, Brett Bobo and Jean Paul Dumont.
Jasmine Adams of Cedar Bluff has been an active Gadsden State student. She serves as a Gadsden State Ambassador, the president of the Inter-Club Council and the vice president of the Student Government Association. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and the Gadsden State Connects Team. She was named to the All-Alabama Academic Team, Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities and was crowned Gadsden State’s Homecoming Queen. She has been awarded a scholarship worth $40,000 to Troy University, where she will pursue a degree in elementary and collaborative education. At the recent Honors Day, she received the Outstanding Ambassador Award and the Outstanding SGA Member Award.
Brett Bobo of Rainsville plans to transfer to Auburn University to pursue a degree in poultry science. He is a Gadsden State Ambassador, a senator with the SGA and a tutor with Student Support Services. He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and Phi Theta Kappa. He was included in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. At the April 26 Honors Day, Bobo received the President’s Cup for the academic division. The designated award is for students who demonstrate exceptional success in all phases of college life. In addition, he earned a number of scholarships to Auburn worth a total of $21,200. He was also one of three students honored with the Outstanding Ambassador Award.
Jean Paul Dumont is a native of River Falls, Mass., who came to Gadsden State after being laid off from his job of 32 years. He is currently pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in electronics engineering technology at the Ayers Campus and he will be working in this field after graduation. Dumont, who has a 4.0 GPA also works as a lab assistant in the electronics department assisting his instructors and tutoring other students.
Graduates will be presented by Dr. Leslie Worthington, dean of Academic Programs and Services, and Dr. Deborah Curry, dean of Health Sciences. Dr. Martha Lavender, president of Gadsden State, will award the degrees. The Gadsden State A Capella Choir will perform. Rodney Johnston, a speech instructor, will serve as the Commencement Grand Marshal.
