Gadsden State Cherokee is set to offer several new classes this fall in addition to the courses that are traditionally offered. The recently approved new courses will benefit students enrolled in both technical and medical programs.

Introduction to Engineering Technology and Principles of Technology will now be offered to students in the Technical Division starting in August. According to Division Chair Tommy Hartline, these classes are required for all students in the division including Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology, Automotive Manufacturing Technology, Civil Engineering, and Drafting and Design. Additionally, students in the Electrical Technology, Electronics Engineering and Industrial Automation programs will be required to enroll in the new Blueprint Reading class.

The Cherokee Campus is also slated to offer an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic course. The class is the first installment in a three part series including Advanced EMT and Paramedics. As students complete the basic course they will move on to the subsequent classes. Students will be trained by professionals in the field and have access to the latest equipment and technology available. The Fall Semester classes will meet three nights each week from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. In addition to the class, those enrolled will be required to complete 40 hours of clinical rotations in the hospital and in the field. At the completion of the three classes, students will be eligible to take a national exam and obtain their Alabama state EMT license.
