Gaylesville Man Stands Charged with Violation of SORNA – the Sex Offender Registration Notification Act

Tucker SORNA 1Authorities arrested a Cherokee County man for a violation of the Sex Offender Registration Notification Act on Tuesday.

According to information posted on the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office website, Jonathan Lee Tucker, age 31, of a Gaylesville address – was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of violating the SORNA law.

SORNA or Sex Offender Registration Notification Act, is part of a comprehensive federal law which requires every state, to maintain a system for monitoring and tracking, convicted sex offenders following their release into the community.

The act makes it a federal crime to knowingly fail to register with state authorities, or fail to update registration at specified times in accordance with the law’s requirements.

Tucker was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center just before 4:00 on Tuesday afternoon, where he currently remains.
