Gaylesville Teenager Arrested in Chattooga County

A Gaylesville teen was recently arrested across the state line in Chattooga County after admitting to stealing from his own mother.

According to a just-released report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office the mother of the 19 year old told deputies that a safe was missing from her home on Dogwood Drive; she said that her other son told her the teenager had been in her bedroom and afterwards the safe was missing.

She went on to tell deputies, that she had bought the safe, after she discovered Ben Mobbs – who reportedly lives with his father in Cherokee County – had been stealing her prescription pills.

Mobbs had already left the Dogwood Drive home by the time law enforcement arrived, however his mother had an idea of where he was headed and a “Lookout” was placed on the vehicle.

Mobbs – who was a passenger in the vehicle – was pulled over by deputies and his mother was called to the scene; Mobbs then admitted to stealing the safe, which contained prescription pills; a firearm and other items.  He also stated that he had “ditched” the items prior to the traffic stop.

Deputies soon located the stolen items on Wildlife Lake Road; while deputies were searching for the items Mobbs managed to kick the passenger side window out of the patrol car.

He was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of Burglary, Damage to Property, the Possession of a Firearm or Knife during the Commission of a Crime, Criminal Trespass and with Interference with Government Property.
