Giants' Outfielder Angel Pagan Bodyslams Fan Who Ran onto Field

Scott Clarke/ESPN Images(SAN FRANCISCO) — Giants outfielder Angel Pagan tackled a male fan who ran onto the field Friday night at AT&T Park, ESPN reports.

The man entered the field during the fourth inning and first approached catcher Buster Posey, who shoved him to the ground. Third baseman Gordon Beckham swiped at the fan as he sprinted towards left field, where he was eventually body-slammed by Pagan. Pagan then held the man on the ground before he was taken away by security.

The outfielder talked about the incident after the game.

“After I saw him getting too close to Buster that he had to push him away, I just thought that my teammate could be in danger… So I had to do something because you never know what they’ve got on their body. So I just wanted to tackle him. I mean, I didn’t want to harm him or anything. But I just wanted to make sure I helped the security people as well as protect my teammates.”

Pagan tipped his cap towards fans who gave him a standing ovation as the Giants returned to the dugout after the third out was recorded.

The Giants went on to win the game 9-3 over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
