Harry Potter Fans, Rejoice: "Fantastic Beasts" Film Series Expands to Five Movies

Jaap Buitendjik/Warner Bros(NEW YORK) — The Harry Potter spin-off series of films just got even more fantastic.

At a fan event for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in London on Thursday, J.K. Rowling said that five films are now planned for the franchise. It was previously expected to be a trilogy.

The Harry Potter author confirmed on Twitter that she’s the screenwriter for all of the prequels, adding that she’s putting the “finishing touches to the second one.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, opening November 18, stars Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a wizard who arrives in New York in the 1920s and loses some of his fantastic beasts.

The second film in the series is due out in November of 2018.
