Head On Collision Shuts Down Causeway Late Friday Night

IMG_0381The causeway in Cedar Bluff was shut down for several hours late Friday night into early Saturday morning following a head on collision involving an 18 wheeler and a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

The Toyota pickup struck the 18 wheeler head on and caromed into the guardrail where it came to rest, the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Cedar Bluff Fire Department and the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, he was then transported to a landing zone at Cedar Bluff School and flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

The passenger was transported by ambulance to a Rome area hospital for treatment, no update was available on condition of either of the victims. Meanwhile, the driver of the big rig, although visibly shaken up was not injured.

Traffic was shutdown in both the north and southbound lanes as a large wrecker had to be called into to move the 18 wheeler.

Cedar Bluff Police and Firefighters, Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to the scene.

We’ll have more as soon ALEA accident reports are released.
