A record-setting night by Edgewood Academy’s Taylor Hawthorne made him the ASWA Offensive Player of the Week.
Hawthorne threw eight touchdown passes – a new AISA record – and finished 23-of-29 passing for 414 yards in a 62-20 victory over Lakeside. His touchdown passes covered 14, 60, 7, 47, 14, 71, 17 and 46 yards.
The eight touchdown passes also set a new Edgewood single-game record that stood for less than a year, after Dylan Ingram threw seven touchdown passes in a 63-28 victory over East Memorial.
Hawthorne’s record-breaking performance beat out two other finalists for the weekly offensive award – Dale County running back Jamarius Henderson and Hale County’s Deacon Medders.
Henderson rushed for 338 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries and added an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in a 56-26 victory over Pike County. He also had seven tackles and forced a fumble on defense.
Medders accounted for 283 yards of total offense and three touchdowns, as well as an interception at his own 11 with 7.3 seconds remaining, in a 19-12 victory over Cold springs. He finished with 119 passing yards and TDs of 18 and 40 yards and added 164 rushing yards, including a 38-yarder for the go-ahead score.
This week’s ASWA Defense/Special Teams Player of the Week is Robertsdale’s Taylor Garrison. He returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown and sealed a 28-26 victory over Northview-Dothan with a late interception.
The finalists for the Defense/Special Teams award are Houston Academy’s Taylor Lewis and Tuscaloosa County’s Dailyn Patton. Lewis recorded 18 tackles, with a quarterback sack and a caused fumble, in a 27-13 victory over G.W. Long, and Patton enjoyed the rare feat or making two tackles in the end zone and scoring two safeties in an 18-0 victory over Hueytown.
ASWA members from Albertville, Auburn, Birmingham, Blountsville, Centre, Cullman, Decatur, Dothan, Florence, Fort Payne, Gadsden, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Talladega and Tuscaloosa nominated players this week.

Terry Bell, Bibb County: Ran 13 times for 181 yards and two touchdowns in a victory over Oak Grove.
T.J. Bell, Bibb County: Ran for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-14 win over Oak Grove.
Jordan Bentley, Guntersville: Rushed 20 times for 241 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-6 rout of Fairview.
Demarcus Bingham, Foley: Caught eight passes for 151 yards and a 30-yard TD in a 32-24 loss to Daphne.

Dacorian Bivens, Carver-Montgomery: Threw touchdown passes of 10 and 11 yards to Kevin McDaniels and 27 and 75 yards to Montago Morris in 40-28 loss to Shades Valley.
Tyler Boland, Vinemont: Had 164 rushing yards and TD runs of 47, 46 and 43 yards on just eight carries in a 19-15 victory over Cordova.
Maceo Booker, James Clemens: Carried 27 times for 182 yards and touchdowns of 2 and 26 yards in a 34-12 victory over Sparkman.
Martavious Brown, Notasulga: Ran six times for 228 yards with touchdowns of 29, 72, 66 and 61 yards in a 60-27 victory at Verbena.
Leander Burrowes, Saraland: Ran for 153 yards on 31 carries in 24-10 victory over Demopolis.
Brandon Byner, Bessemer City: Led the Tigers with three touchdowns in the 37-9 win over Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. Byner returned a punt 82 yards for a TD, ran 91 yards for a TD and caught a 61-yard TD pass.
Ryan Carpenter, Colbert County: Rushed for 169 yards and two scores in 55-0 victory over West Morgan.
Dewayne Charleston, Linden: Completed 9 of 10 passes for 221 yards and three scores in a victory over St. Luke’s.
Ronnie Clark, Calera: Completed 11-of-14 passes for 142 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 101 yards and another TD in a 63-0 victory over West Blocton.
Undriel Copeland, Glenwood: Rushed for 206 yards and five TDs on 21 carries and added a 2-point conversion in a 69-49 loss to Kingwood.
Dalton Cosby, Cedar Bluff: Completed 9 of 18 passes for 146 yards and a 5-yard touchdown, while also rushing for 107 yards on 15 carries with a 20-yard score in a 49-20 win at Coosa Christian.
Josh Crawford, Edgewood: Caught 10 passes for 167 yards and touchdowns of 14, 60 and 7 yards in a 62-20 win over Lakeside. He also ran for a touchdown.
Garrett Crider, Cullman: Scored on runs of 61 and 6 yards, as well as on a 15-yard screen pass in the Bearcats’ lightning-delayed, statewide-televised 35-14 victory over West Point.
Riley Eisner, Good Hope: Freshman stepped in after senior quarter left with injury and threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns to lead Good Hope to a 41-27 victory over Winston County. Eisner completed 19 of 30 passes.
Jason Futrell, Wilson: Rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries in 54-27 victory over Rogers. Futrell scored on runs of 78 and 56 yards.
Kevin Garrett, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa: Rushed 30 times for 173 yards in a 37-9 loss to Bessemer City.
Cory Gill, Cottonwood: Completed 18 of 29 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns in the Bears’ 35-7 victory over Providence Christian.
Peyton Gilliland, Cleveland: Rushed for 153 yards and three TDs (77, 34 and 2 yards) on nine carries and completed 9 of 13 passes for 92 yards in a 29-0 victory over Ashville.
Marcuz Gilmore, Jackson: Caught nine passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns a 49-6 victory over Greenville.
Tyler Glenn, Cullman: Finished 11 of 19 for 227 passing yards and three touchdowns (15, 16 and 51 yards) in a 35-14 victory over West Point.

Dustin Ingram, Fayetteville : Rushed for 194 yards two touchdowns in victory over Wadley.
Devlin Hodges, Mortimer Jordan: Threw three touchdowns (1, 19 and 11 yards) and added a 35-yard scoring run in a 54-16 win over Curry. Hodges completed 7 of 10 passes for 146 yards and ran for 78 yards on four carries.
Thaddeus Houser, McAdory: Ran for 102 yards on only four carries, including a 47-yard touchdown run to start the scoring in a 31-16 win over Central-Tuscaloosa.
Darnell Jackson, Piedmont: Rushed for 129 yards on just carries and scored on a 77-yard touchdown run and also caught a 27-yard touchdown pass in a 41-7 victory at Glencoe.
Matthew Jordan, Jackson: Ran 20 times for 171 yards and a 54-yard touchdown, while also completing 18-of-34 passes for 242 yards and three scores, in a 49-6 victory over Greenville.
Keilan Knight, Center Point: e for four TDs in a 61-20 win over Springville. Knight threw for three touchdowns (5, 76 and 6 yards) while completing 10 of 21 for 136 yards and ran for a 64-yard touchdown.
Josh Lewis, Pickens Academy: Ran for 261 yards and two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass in a 35-18 win over Southern Academy.
Tevin Madison, Fayette County: Caught five passes for 101 yards and scored on receptions of 15 and 59 yards in a 21-7 win over Gordo.

Jeremy Mobley, Greene County: Ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass in a 48-6 win over Holt.
Zack Morgan, Daphne: Completed 12 of 24 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score in Daphne’s 32-24 win at Foley. Morgan led his team to the winning field goal after Foley took the lead with 2:02 remaining.
Tre Nation, Leeds: Scored twice (2 and 12 yards) on 32 carries for 170 yards in a 30-15 victory over Midfield. Nation also tackled Midfield’s Ladarius Young in the end zone for a third-quarter safety.
T.J. Pratt, Hubbertville: Rushed for 138 and scored two touchdowns, including the game-winner with 4:26 to go, in a 20-16 win over Berry.
Tyler Rogers, Mobile Christian: Ran 14 times for 224 yards – including 214 in the first half – and had scoring runs of 80, 67, 3 and 8 yards in a 42-14 victory over Leroy.
Justin Rowell, Monroe Academy: Rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns in Monroe Academy’s 50-14 victory over Escambia Academy.
Malik Rosier, Faith Academy: Finished 15 of 27 for 164 yards and three TDs passing and rushed for 101 yards and TD runs of 13 and 3 yards on nine carries in a loss.
Paul Ruiz, Etowah: Rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns â€” including a 95-yarder â€” in a 37-7 victory over Brewer.
Walter Rutledge, Homewood: Finished with 145 yards on 31 carries, including an early 1-yard TD run, in a 38-14 victory over Briarwood Christian.
Quenton Samuels, W.S. Neal: Rushed 17 times for 290 yards and four TDs and added a two-point conversion run in a 48-2 victory over Cottage Hill Christian.
CJ Savage, Piedmont: Caught two passes for 116 yards, and both went for touchdowns (53 and 63 yards) in a 41-7 win at Glencoe.
Cooper Sellers, Houston County:Threw for 270 yards and three scores on 13-of-17 passing and also had a rushing touchdown in a 27-13 victory over Wicksburg.
Zack Simbeck, Lauderdale County: Rushed for 120 yards and two TDs on 15 carries in 33-14 victory over Deshler. Simbeck scored on runs of 63 and 9 yards.
Devonte’ Simon, Pickens County: Ran for three touchdowns, threw for two and scored on a 75-yard interception return in a 78-12 victory over Lynn.
Hunter Slater, Bayside Academy: The senior quarterback completed 9 of 11 passes for 189 yards and four touchdowns as the Admirals routed Opp 42-14.
Jacob Sloan, Pleasant Grove: Accounted for three touchdowns, including a 57-yard run with 1:57 remaining to secure a 21-7 victory over Parker. Sloan ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns, and threw for 96 yards, including an 18-yard scoring pass.
Malik Smith, Sheffield: Had two of team’s five interceptions as in a 45-0 victory over Phil Campbell. Smith returned one of his interceptions 42 yards for a TD.
Landon Smothers, Muscle Shoals: Scored on runs of 37, 50 and 36 yards in the first quarter and finished with 160 yards on nine carries in a 49-0 victory over Lawrence County. He also threw a 10-yard TD pass.
Hayden Stephens, Tanner: Finished with 232 yards and TD runs of 64, 5, 3 and 70 yards on 15 carries in a 49-13 win over Cherokee County.
Ty Sparks, Piedmont: Completed 6 of 14 pass attempts for 173 yards and three touchdowns (53, 63 and 27 yards). He also rushed for 72 yards on three carries with a score in second-ranked Piedmont’s 41-7 victory at Glencoe.
Santiago Taylor, Aliceville: Completed 14 of 19 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns in a 46-3 win over Sulligent.
Tim Tilley, Childersburg: Recorded 182 total yards — 93 yards rushing on nine carries, including a 60-yard run, and two reception for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Tyler Fraebel, Fort Payne: Returned an interception 101 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half, had eight tackles (six solo) and averaged 42 yards on two punts, one of which was downed at the 8-yard line, in a victory over Arab.
Josh Gregory, Valley Head: Finished with 17 tackles (nine solo) as Valley Head defeated Spring Garden 34-7. He also caught two passes for 99 yards, including a 67-yard TD, and carried seven times for 68 yards, with a 4-yard touchdown.
Earnest Gunn, Selma: Intercepted two passes and caught an 18-yard TD in a 35-0 victory over Citronelle.
Keith Holcombe, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa: Had 10 tackles in a 37-9 loss to Bessemer City.

Caleb Wooten, Cottonwood: Earned nine solo tackles, assisted on four others and had a blocked punt which he recovered in the end zone for a TD in a 35-7 victory over Providence Christian.
