High Speed Chase from Collinsville to Crossville Results in Arrest of Albertville Man

A high speed chase along Highway 68 from Collinsville into Crossville, resulted in the arrest of a 46 year old Albertville man on a long list of charges.

According to Collinsville Police Chief Gary Bowen, that pursuit stated as Officer Jeremy Bell attempted to pull over a 2001 Mercedes for an equipment violation on 68, around 1:15 that morning; however, the driver refused to stop and took off at a high rate of speed.

Officer Bell was soon joined in the chase by DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office K9 Deputy Akins, and Officer Slaton of the Crossville PD.

The Mercedes barreled into downtown Crossville and turned onto Justice Street North then headed back toward Highway 227 – when the vehicle was met at the intersection by Officer Cagle with the Geraldine Police Department.  The Mercedes ran into a ditch, with the driver – identified as Michael Anthony Shores – being taken into custody at the scene.

A search of the Mercedes turned up a handgun in the console and in the back seat there was a backpack containing a laptop computer, a set of digital scales with white powder residue, and a plastic container with approximately 17 grams of a white powder inside – which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Shores was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Controlled Substance, with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Afterwards, he was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center.
