Highway 273 From Leesburg to Blanche Named In Honor Of Local Veteran

A number of dignitaries, local residents, family members, friends and a large number of veterans from across the state gathered at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 273 in the Blanche Community to officially designate a 14 mile stretch of the Highway as the David L. Hartline Highway.

Among those in attendance was State Senator Phil Williams who also currently serves in the military as a Colonel with the U.S. Army – Senator Williams offered his appreciation for Mr. Hartline.

Hartline is considered one of Cherokee County’s most decorated Veterans and was drafted into military service in 1968 serving in the United States Army, Reserves and Guard for a total of 23 years; he was wounded twice and received numerous medals and awards.

Cherokee County Probate Judge and Commission Chairman Kirk Day who is likewise a veteran and West Point Graduate shared his appreciation on behalf of the County Commission.

Mr. Hartline has devoted over 25 years working on behalf of veterans and travelling through the ranks from E1 to Lieutenant Colonel at his retirement; he is presently State Vice Commander of the American Legion.
