Highway 278 Accident Friday Night Sends Three to the Hospital

A three-vehicle accident in Cherokee County on Friday night sent three people to the hospital.

According to the Alabama State Trooper accident report, a stranded motorist, who was identified as 28 year old LaTosha Mills of Arkansas, was standing by her 2001 Chevrolet on Highway 278, just before midnight – when two good Samaritans pulled her behind her to offer assistance.

18 year old Tyler Morgan of Piedmont – who was a passenger in the 1993 Nissan – got out of the vehicle and was speaking with Mills – when a 2000 Honda, being driven by 71 year old Gadsden resident Kenneth Owens slammed into the rear of the Nissan, pinning Mills and Morgan between the Nissan and the Chevy.

Mills was air-lifted to UAB for treatment; meanwhile both Morgan and Owens were transported to Gadsden Regional.  The Driver of the Nissan – Randal Rowland of Piedmont – escaped injury.

That accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
